Sustainability in inductions

Hi everyone! We’re looking at developing the sustainability sections in our inductions at Bristol Medical School and I was wondering if anyone would be happy to share what you have written about sustainability in your inductions?

We have more sustainability content for staff and students that work in our labs (but this could be developed) but for staff and students elsewhere within the medical school I don’t think they get given much sustainability information during the induction.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Lucy – my colleague Rhea Samra is working on this for Imperial at the moment for all-staff induction training – she’s out at the EUAC conference just now so if you’re there you might run into her, otherwise suggest email r.samra@imperial.ac.uk to compare notes

Hi Harriet, that’s really helpful, thank you! Unfortunately I couldn’t make the EAUC conference this year so I’ll definitely drop her an email. Thanks again!

Hi Lucy

Here is the link to the Y1 induction I give at Manchester with one half produced and delivered by y NHS colleagues at Manchester.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/9gin09ker2cv7jmqs2vmc/Medic-induction-Feb-2026.pptx?rlkey=zpjylnwfgfl3yake1zsdsbfa9&dl=0

It’s a mixture of link between environmental crisis and health, green NHS actions, actions we are taking for curriculum and personal eco-actions students can take at Uni.
The file is very big because a video is embedded, but I can remove it if you cannot open the file.

Feel free to reuse/adapt slides

Best,
Maggy

Hi Lucy

I ran an induction for a summer school for medical students which was more interactive and well received.

Thank you so much Maggy!

Hi Lucy,

A bit late to the replies and very specific to sustainable lab practice, but the ITSS ESN has a Laboratory Efficiency Training programme for technicians, and on the back of this attendees are given an induction pack to develop to their home institution :slightly_smiling_face:
